Adobe Acrobat Reader Download and Installation Instructions (Please print this document for ease of use)
To the Officers, Members, Secretaries, and Recorders of the York Rite of Missouri,
Effective for the 2005-2006 Grand York Rite year, the presiding grand officers have agreed to use email as a form of official communications, to those that have email. In order to protect the Grand York Rite, many of the emails will contain attachments of the official document in an Adobe.pdf format. This is the generally accepted format to transmit documents in their original form to all who may not be able to read the document in its original program form (like Microsoft Word, Works, or Word Perfect). The presiding grand officers have all agreed that the office should use this format to send out all communications to those who have email in an effort to save money on postage, the largest expense of this office.
Some of you have expressed concerns about your ability to download and install the software. I will attempt to assist you by providing some instructions. I hope this helps. (If you already have the program installed, please simply delete this message.)
1. Obviously, you must first be connected to the internet. 2. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape Explorer, etc.). 3. Enter the address http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and select enter or go (or simply click on this link). 4. Under Platform, select the WINDOWS operating system you are using. If you do not know the operating system, right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop (upper left hand corner of your computer screen) and select Properties. 5. Under Connection, choose the type of connection you have, either Dial-Up or Broadband. 6. Check the box next to Download the full version of Adobe Reader. 7. Uncheck the box next to Download the Adobe Yahoo! Toolbar. 8. If you do not already have one and would like to have a free software program to look at and even edit digital pictures, check the box next to Also download free Photoshop Album 2.0 Starter Edition software. 9. Click Continue at the bottom of the page. 10. Click on the Download button at the top of the next web page. 11. A File Download dialog box will pop up on your screen. Select Save. 12. When you select Save, a new dialog box will pop up asking you where you want to save the program. It will automatically default to your Desktop (this is what you want). The file name is psa2011se_DLM_us_full.exe, do not change the file name, simply select the Save button. This will start the download. a. If you have a firewall, you may be prompted to accept this download, it is safe to do so. b. If you are on a dial up connection, this would be a good time to go to dinner, for about 3 hours or so. It is a very large file and will take several hours to download. 13. Once you have the file downloaded, close all open programs on your computer (such as your email/web browser). Double (left) click on the psa2011se_DLM_us_full.exe icon on your desktop to start the program installation. Simply follow the instructions and select all the default options. 14. If you still cannot open the .pdf files, give me a call and we will try to work you through it. Obviously, if you still remain unable to read these documents, please let us know and we will continue to mail them the using the postal service.
